‘We choose our staff carefully, not only for their exceptional qualifications but also for their kindness and empathy’
Moving into a care home can be a difficult decision. There is concern for losing one’s identity, sense of control and place in the world.
But if you, or a loved one, has been considering the need for care because of dementia, long-term physical health problems or mental ill health a nursing home between Bristol and Bath can offer you some peace of mind.
Arbour Walk, run by Cedar Care, is a newly purpose-built home in the heart of Brislington. With light, airy rooms, striking decor and secure landscaped gardens, the home offers a warm welcome as soon as visitors walk through the door.
Staff at the home pride themselves on putting residents and their families at the centre of care and giving them choices. They’ll offer as much, or as little support as wanted, whether it’s simply help with making the most of a resident’s abilities and independence, or providing high levels of psychological and nursing assistance.
One daughter of a resident at a Cedar Care home said: “The other day whilst I was visiting, Mum was sat in the lounge having a cup of tea. She looked around the room then said to me very genuinely ‘I really love it here, they are really lovely and take good care of me’.
“I couldn’t have been happier seeing the big smile on her face.”
Cedar Care is a family run business with homes across Bristol, Bath and Cheshire. It currently holds a 9.5 out of ten rating on www.carehome.co.uk which is judged by residents and their families.
Having established the company in 1987, the owners of Cedar Care remain actively involved in operating the service – they feel this is key to maintaining a personal touch and retaining loyal and caring staff.
Operations director, Minal Desai, said: “Our whole ethos is to be of service to others, and this transforms the way that residents experience our care.
“We choose our staff carefully, not only for their exceptional qualifications but also for their kindness and empathy.

Arbour Walk – which is located on Hungerford Road, Brislington, Bristol BS4 5HU – is hosting an open weekend for prospective residents on Wednesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 5 from 10am to 4pm.
At Winfield Lodge we have just opened the Darcy Suites, a new residential wing.
We invited our first resident, Marjorie Dodd to cut the ribbon and celebrate the opening with our other residents. We had a wonderful cake made by our Assistant Catering Manager – Dave and a few cheeky glasses of Prosecco.
It was a cheerful afternoon and we’re very happy to welcome Marjorie to her new home and sincerely hope she’ll enjoy her time with us!
